Overview of Assist Clients with Medication


The administration of medication is a specialist area that continually changes and requires constant practice.  MEDECS Australia have a Third Party Agreement with St Michaels Association Inc (RTO Code 60067) to deliver and assess HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medication and associated unit from the Medication Skills Set, HLTAAP001 Recognise Healthy Body Systems.


St Michaels Association Inc (STMA) act as the lead RTO to ensure all obligations regarding RTO registration standards are met including the issue of statements of attainment.  MEDECS Australia have and employ only Registered Nurses with the required national Trainer/Assessor competencies to deliver and the units.  The medication administration accreditation program, including delivery and assessment resources have been designed and developed by MEDECS Australia in consultation with STMA, following extensive industry consultation.


Target Group

Unregulated health care workers who administer medications to clients in a variety of health care settings:

*Disability Support Workers
*Extended Care Assistants – Aged Care Residential
*Extended Care Assistants – Aged Care Community Services


Program Summary

The program will be conducted over a period of approximately 5 weeks.  The program segments include:

  • A 2.5-day workshop program
  • A 4-week structured on-the-job training period with a suitable Medication Mentor
  • A final 1-hour practical assessment
